Teaching Girls Web Technology
As part of Mozilla’s Summer Code Party, the ladies at HER Ideas in Motion got together to train other mentors to go out and teach girls web technology.
HER Ideas in Motion holds workshops throughout the year on web development and filmmaking. Women professionals role model their careers to inspire the next generation of female techies.

Find out about @MozillaIgnite’s Hackanooga Hackathon - an amazing idea jam that could win web developers prizes and mentorships in the Mozilla Ignite Challenge.
From WRCBtv.com:
“HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB)— Chattanooga is quickly becoming known across the country for having the fastest Internet in the Western hemisphere, offering speeds of one gigabit-per-second.
This weekend web developers from across the U.S. came to the Scenic City to take full advantage of the service.
The first-ever ‘hackathon,’ called ‘Hackanooga,’ attracted both experienced and amateur web developers to kick start new ideas, using the web in the ‘Gig City’ to build community-centered prototype apps and programs.
“They’re really trying to create apps and programs that benefit the community in some way and the greater good,” says Kelly McCarthy.
Kelly McCarthy moved to Chattanooga four years ago and helps run a web design firm. She says now that Chattanooga offers 1 gigabit-per-second fiber Internet service to all of its residents and businesses, the possibilities are endless.
“This is something that you just don’t have access to everywhere,” she says.
That is why she teamed up with U.S. Ignite and Mozilla to bring web gurus from across the country to put the gig speed to the test, working on prototype high bandwidth and big data apps, focusing on everything from public safety to education.”

Hive NYC Street Squad - Teen Webmakers Activate!
In just a few weeks, Hive NYC’s three high-school summer interns—Zainab, Wilson and Eddie, aka the Hive NYC Street Squad—went from playing with Webmaker projects to creating their own Thimble projects and sharing their newfound skills with their peers at six Summer Code Party events!
From kitchen table-type skillshares with other teens at the Rubin Museum of Art, MOUSE and Brooklyn Public Library, to an event with over 150 middle schools students at the Bronx YMCA (and even an outdoor flea market!), the Hive NYC Street Squad helped over 400 people learn how to remix and build the web using X-Ray Goggles and Thimble. Check out the many memes and hacks they helped facilitate here: http://hivenyccodeparties.tumblr.com/post/27728905965/hiveness1

Zainab and Wilson also created their own Thimble projects, which were inspired by the documentary, “Bully,” and lead people through the process of building a webpage about a topic or issue they’re passionate about.
Try the projects: here and here.
