Unnati the Webmaker, who once ran into trouble while working on a Thimble project, and Gauthramraj the Mentor, who created novel ways for her to solve problems has another chapter!

“Hey all,

Unnati was asked to make a webpage for an exhibition and as expected she simply rocked :-) Here is the link https://thimble.webmaker.org/p/2c0 ! I am sure you all will love it ! To make the things more interesting , I asked Unnati to try with her school if she can do a mozparty in her school with her friends. She got the permission and will be hosting a Mozparty day after tomorrow. Also, I have sent her few mozparty and Firefox goodies by courier to make her event more awesome :-) “

This weekend, educators and teens from more than ten Hive NYC member
organizations ran activities that demonstrate the collaborative
nature of the network and the innovative (mainly after school)
programs offered to youth across the city.

Hive Learning Network NYC (aka Hive NYC) is a coalition of 40 non-profit organizations museums, libraries, media and others-that work together to develop programs that promote interest-driven learning and the creative use of digital media and technology for youth.

Thimble at #makerfaire!

We’d like to share something really special - this Popcorn video submitted by Tetsuya Kosaka, a MozRep in Japan is a perfect ending to an amazing Summer Code Party.

Tetsuya and Webmakers from six cities in four different countries collaborated on “Thimble Island” - a Thimble map full of OTHER Thimbles that share something special about the places they live that contributors thought were worth sharing.

Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiyoshi in Japan, Bandung in Indonesia, plus Thailand and Bangladesh Webmakers greeted each other in the morning on Saturday, September the 22nd to create the Summer’s most novel Summer Code Party.

They created a city-to-city Thimble Relay and stayed in video contact throughout the day as Webmakers learned and taught each other Thimble.

At the end of the relay, they congregated to talk about what they had made together and to take a group photo. (see Popcorn Video by clicking header or click here)

Teaching Girls Web Technology

As part of Mozilla’s Summer Code Party, the ladies at HER Ideas in Motion got together to train other mentors to go out and teach girls web technology.

HER Ideas in Motion holds workshops throughout the year on web development and filmmaking. Women professionals role model their careers to inspire the next generation of female techies.

“HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB)— Chattanooga is quickly becoming known across the country for having the fastest Internet in the Western hemisphere, offering speeds of one gigabit-per-second.

This weekend web developers from across the U.S. came to the Scenic City to take full advantage of the service.

The first-ever ‘hackathon,’ called ‘Hackanooga,’ attracted both experienced and amateur web developers to kick start new ideas, using the web in the ‘Gig City’ to build community-centered prototype apps and programs.

“They’re really trying to create apps and programs that benefit the community in some way and the greater good,” says Kelly McCarthy.

Kelly McCarthy moved to Chattanooga four years ago and helps run a web design firm. She says now that Chattanooga offers 1 gigabit-per-second fiber Internet service to all of its residents and businesses, the possibilities are endless.

“This is something that you just don’t have access to everywhere,” she says.

That is why she teamed up with U.S. Ignite and Mozilla to bring web gurus from across the country to put the gig speed to the test, working on prototype high bandwidth and big data apps, focusing on everything from public safety to education.”
